What impact has EDA had on you?

EDA has had a massive impact on me. It has shown me an entire new world that exists right here in the same town I’ve spent my whole life in. The tech community is so welcoming and just a pleasure to be introduced to. EDA has shown me that ‘work’ and the things I ‘want’ to be doing can be the same thing.

What has been the biggest lesson you have learned?

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that being around the right people makes everything else fall into place. Learning from supportive, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic people makes learning a breeze and makes you want more. Learning alongside people who have similar interests and who are struggling the same as you is incredibly motivating. Coming into an environment where everyone enjoys each other, wants to be there, and looks forward to the time with each other every day makes you excited to get up every day and see what’s next.

What has been your favorite memory from EDA?

Katie’s face after Lee asked Brandon how much he made a year to end his time talking to us, and pretty much everything that came out of Lee’s mouth. Overall EDA was just a favorite memory of mine.

If you were to give advice to someone considering applying to EDA, what would you say?

Do it! It’s easily been one of if not the, best decision I have made in my life. Somehow it has been the hardest, but most fun experience I have gone through. I’ve met some of the nicest and most interesting people during my time with the program and even in the most stressful parts, the positives far outweighed the rest.

What advice do you have for the next cohort?

If they tell you, you are getting Heelies, don’t believe them.

Put all the effort in that you can, and remember that your time is incredibly short. Buy into the program, and give 100% even on the things you don’t like or that seem silly. The parts that aren’t coding are the true value of EDA.
