Meet Minsky: Alex Dahlen

Alex Dahlen is a current Emerging Digital Academy student in our thirteenth cohort, the Minsky Cohort. Alex was born in Coon Rapids, MN, and moved around quite a bit. Through all the moving, Alex grew up mainly in Elbow Lake, MN. He joined EDA after being a bar manager.

Why did you choose EDA?

I wanted a change of pace from my current career path, but the tech industry seemed difficult to break into. When I heard about EDA it seemed like a good avenue to break into the industry locally.

What is the most interesting or surprising thing about EDA so far?

Honestly the support and positivity. I was more expecting a college-like learning environment where you are just a face in the masses. Here, everyone knows each other and helps each other out.

Are there any companies that you would love to work for?

I’m more excited to work in the industry than to work for a specific company. With so many opportunities it will be hard to pick.

What are your hobbies outside of EDA?

Reading is my main hobby, but also enjoy playing games (tabletop and video), and golfing.

Any advice for someone thinking about joining EDA?

Time Management is key! Also make sure you have a good support system.

What is something you are grateful for?

My wife! Her support and encouragement is what truly pushed me into the EDA program.
