Scott Learn about Scott and why he chose EDA ⬇️

Why did you choose EDA?

I have been a restaurant owner for the last 16 years, and was ready for a change. I learned so much from that career, but was ready for more conventional hours and more of a work/life balance.

I have always enjoyed logic and problem solving and have had an interest in tech. I started out teaching myself online. I had heard about coding bootcamps so I looked into a couple. I chose EDA because of the combination of remote and in-person learning. It seemed like it would fit my learning style better than other bootcamps. I also want to stay in the F-M area, so it made more sense to enroll where I could add to my current network acquaintances, friends and family to help me progress with my career goals and aspirations.

What is the most interesting or surprising thing about EDA so far?

I am amazed at how excited I am to start any project that has to do with my learning. I enjoy figuring out what needs to be done to finish an assignment. I am also excited to come to class each day, we’ll see how long that lasts, but so far my interest in software development isn’t waning.

Are there any companies that you would love to work for?

I think working in the tech department of a company that owns or manages restaurants would be an interesting next step. It would combine all of my years of experience in restaurants and my new knowledge of software development.

What are your hobbies outside of EDA?

I enjoy time with my family and friends. I have 6 nephews who are all live in the F-M area so I get to attend school and sporting events that they are a part of.

I also love to travel. I have have recently been to New Zealand, Australia, Spain, Italy, Thailand and Singapore. A couple of destinations I would like to visit next are Chile, Japan and South Africa. I like to attend sporting events and have had season tickets for the Minnesota Vikings for over 10 years. I like live music and attending concerts.

Any advice for someone thinking about joining EDA?

Apply! The staff at EDA is great at giving you guidance on what you need to do to be ready for this challenge.

What is something you are grateful for?

I am grateful for the opportunity to start out in a new career path, especially in something that I am enjoying so much.
